Anchor Wallet

A beginners guide to creating an Anchor wallet

Anchor Wallet creation for Desktop

Recommended for Advanced blockchain users ONLY

You hold the keys! If you lose your keys without a backup file or your keys physically written down you will lose access to your wallet. Proceed ONLY if you can protect your keys from hardware/software failures or theft.

Prerequisite to begin - You must currently have another active wallet like a Wax Cloud Wallet or a Wombat to generate your very first keypair. Explained below.

Step 1.) Visit https://greymass.com/en/anchor/

Step 2.) Click “Download free today” then you will be presented with your options for download. Available on Windows, macOS, and Linux. For this example we will be using Windows.

Please note: Mobile anchor application does not contain the features needed for full wallet management and creation and should only be used for signing transactions from a mobile device after you have acquainted yourself with the desktop application. Using the mobile application is FAR less secure than the desktop counterpart and should be used sparingly.

Step 3.) Once Downloaded, install and open the Anchor Application. The Anchor Core Client is now operational and ready to create a wallet.

Step 4.) You will need to establish a global password. This password will unlock the application for use on your specific computer. DO NOT forget this password. It is client side only and nobody can help you if this password is lost or forgotten. It is to deter someone from accessing your wallet while sitting at your computer physically.

Step 5.) You will need to adjust your settings in Anchor to allow a more robust user experience and easily import your first wallet. Click the gears in the top right corner.

Step 6.) Under the “Advanced User Options” drop down choose “Display advanced options” then close the menu with the advanced options enabled.

Step 7.) Click “Tools” on the left sidebar within the Anchor application, then click “Manage Keys”

Step 8.) You will then choose “Generate Key Pairs” and generate your keys.

Step 9.) You will now see your key pairs there will be a total of 2 PUBLIC keys and 2 PRIVATE keys. Click “Save Keys to Wallet”

Please Note: Take this opportunity to WRITE DOWN your private keys and put them in a safe place where they will not be lost, destroyed, or stolen.

Step 10.) You are done generating keys now it is time to create your first Anchor account. Visit https://wax.bloks.io/wallet/create-account and sign in in the top right with ANY WAX wallet you control. You will want to have your PUBLIC keys ready as this is the wallet creation step. To access them you will Click “Tools” on the left sidebar in the Anchor application. Then click “Manage Keys”. You will be presented with 2 visible PUBLIC keys beginning in PUB_K1_. These are not private and can be seen on-chain. Copy the first one in its entirety and paste it to “New Accounts Public Owner Key”. Do the same for “New Accounts Public Active Key”. Under “New Account to Create” you will need to enter a 12 character wallet address of your choice. Once done click “Create Account”. For this example the wallet address is “anchorisbest”.

Please note: You can optionally fund the new Anchor wallets CPU/RAM/NET resources at this time which are used to process transactions gas free on the WAX blockchain. You can also do this later within the Anchor application.

Step 11.) You have now successfully created your own custom private keyed wallet address. This is one of the most secure methods of storing assets long term. Proper key management and security is a must. Never reveal your PRIVATE keys to anyone under any circumstances. Always keep your keys written down. Always keep a backup file of your wallet offline and secure. You are in full and complete control over how secure your wallet is.
